Little Black Dress

Dress: TBags Los Angeles (similar here and here) | Heels: Aldo | Ring: Baublebar | Sunnies: Dolce & Gabbana

At this time of year, I often find it difficult to choose what to wear in the evening. The weather and temperatures tend to shift back and forth leaving me a bit confused on what I will be most comfortable in. I am always a fan of the little black dress, and more than ever during the Fall. A few months ago, I purchased this dress from TBags Los Angeles and love that it works perfectly for the current season and will continue to be a go-to in the winter. Simply adding a pair of stockings, boots or booties will finish off the look for a fun date night or dinner with friends - I have linked a couple of dresses above that are very similar. xx

Fall Lipstick Shades

YSL (Rouge Volupte) - For every day wear, I keep this in my handbag at all times.
Laura Mercier (Poppy) - My go-to when I am looking for something with a red tint and added sparkle.
Bare Minerals (Call the Shots) - A matte finish, perfect for a statement look or night out on the town!
Bobbi Brown (Scarlett) - A gloss that could not be more perfect for the Fall season. (I wore it in Tuesdays post!)

Here are my four current favorite shades for Fall, what are yours? xx

A Fall Favorite

Boots: Frye | Skirt: J.Crew Factory | Tee: Revolve Clothing | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Watch: Michele | Necklace: Kenneth Jay Lane

This will be my third season with these Frye boots and they are still my go-to and Fall favorite. I love their versatility and the fact that I can wear them with almost everything. Although they are definitely an investment, I have gotten my fair use out of them and they still look like new - I like to clean them with this every few weeks to keep them in tip top shape! During this time of year, I choose to wear them without tights or leggings, as the height of the boots offer just enough coverage for early Fall days. Happy Tuesday! xx

Graphic Hearts

Blouse: LOFT | Denim: J Brand | Heels: BCBG | Watch: Michele | Sunnies: Dolce & Gabanna, similar style here

Usually, I gravitate towards basic and simple pieces but, I was drawn to this blouse when I saw it at Ann Taylor LOFT. The bow detail and little graphic hearts placed throughout, add a touch of fun to a simple pair of jeans and heels. I have a feeling that I will be getting a lot of use out of this blouse in the coming months, as it is the perfect layer under a quilted or faux fur vest. In addition to purchasing this blouse, I picked up these leggings from their Lou & Grey line. Cozy and comfortable, I highly recommend them if you are in search for a new pair! xx

A Few Things

Necklace: Juliet & Company via Shopbop | Hat: Rag and Bone | Vest: Madewell | Tee: J.Crew | Booties: Sam Edelman | Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs | Skort: Top Shop

Here are a few of the things I am currently adoring. I am a firm believer that one can never have enough striped tees, a statement necklace with pearls and sparkles could not be more perfect, and I am simply in love with this faux fur vest. In addition, I have been on the search for a Fall hat, and this one is certainly a top contender on my wish list! All of the above can easily be mix and matched with each other, which I love even more - what items above are your favorites? xx

5 Fall Budgeting Tips

With Fall quickly approaching, I have started to make updates to my wardrobe. As a working girl, it has always been important for me to budget my expenses. Over the past few years, I have come up with a few little tricks to make both my closet and bank account happy. I hope that you will find this just as helpful as it has been for me! xx

1. Make a list and check it twice: Take inventory of what you have in your closet. List items you need for the season and then add in a few pieces that would be "nice" to have. Also, consider events that are coming up on your calendar. Budget in things like, a wedding guest dress or a vest for an upcoming ski trip. Try your best to stick to the list. It has always been difficult for me to resist buying that extra tank top or embroidered headband at the checkout line but, you may be surprised how quickly those purchases add up.

2. Do your research: Take the time to explore your favorite retailers. One site may be offering free shipping and returns, while another might have the boots you can't get your mind off of on sale! Save your favorite items to the shopping cart feature. Some sites even offer a "Wish List" option.

3. Splurge on the essentials: If it is something basic, classic or that I will wear for years to come, I generally do not second guess my purchase. However, also take advantage of certain sales to stock up on these items. The Shopbop and J.Crew sales are my favorite examples of this!

4. Less is more: Personally, I would rather have a small closet of items that are of good quality and I love instead of a large variety of items that do not hold up as well. In addition, I find it to be much easier to get dressed when you know exactly what you have in your closet. Best of all, it may give you a few extra hits on the snooze button in the morning!

5. Always have "saving" on your mind: Since I was a little girl my parents placed more emphasis on experiences together, than spending on material things. They instilled in me that saving for travel, maintaining a "rainy day" fund for unplanned emergencies, and giving back to others should take priority. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice handbag; but the fun memories from a vacation spent with loved ones or money donated to a cause close to your heart will always mean more than any material thing.

One Year

Dress: Lulu's, love this color for Fall | Cardigan: J.Crew | Heels: BCBG | Nail Polish: Essie 'Lollipop'

I have my party dress on, because today marks the first birthday of bright city brunette! :) What started as a simple outlet for me to share my love for style, writing, and interest in photography has quickly turned into more. To be honest, I did not tell anyone about my blog for the first few months. Putting myself on display made me feel a bit uneasy. However, I realized that everyone in this world has unique traits, interests and things to share. If you find a way to do it that you enjoy, why not embrace it? This little space of mine has become a place not only to express my creative side, but share inspiration that I hope is relatable and will make your day brighter. I am so thankful for the people I have met through this experience and all of you for following along over the past year! More to come... xx

Back to Basics

Blouse: Goodnight Macaroon | Denim: Mother via Anthropologie | Watch: Michele |
Sunnies: Dolce & Gabbana, similar style here | Pumps: Aldo | Bag: Forever 21, similar here

Today, I am teaming up with the very sweet Mary-Katherine, from Gold-Hatted Lover, to share some of our Fall basics - I am so excited about this collaboration as I love Mary-Katherine's blog, fun style, and know you will too!

With the start of every season, I like to go back to the basics during the first few weeks. This helps me to put together new outfits with what I already own and get an idea of what I still may need. In addition, there is something quite perfect to me about a white blouse, simple pair of denim and black pumps worn all together. These items are my go-to choice for any occasion and easily transition from Summer to Fall. I purchased this blouse from Goodnight Macaroon and absolutely love the collar, details and fun spin it takes on a classic white shirt. Better yet, it is perfect for day and night! What are some of your favorite basics for the Fall season? Don't forget to check out more details of how Mary-Katherine styled her basics here! xx
