New Year's Inspiration

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday with loved ones! I thought it would be fun to pull a little inspiration post together for my packing list this weekend. Better yet, most items are on sale. What do you have planned? We are heading to the Hamptons and I could not be more excited. There is something so special to me about spending time at the beach during the off season. If you have any recommendations of things to do near Hamptons Bay, I would love to hear.

On that note, thank you for checking in each week and following along on this little blog of mine. I sincerely hope it is a fun place to visit, where you can escape the ordinary and find inspiration. Each post is truly a reflection of my favorite things and I love being able to share it with you. I promise, there is so much to look forward to in 2017. My goal for the new year is to continue finding excitement in little things throughout the day. That's been my motto since first starting this blog, finding bright inspiration in the little things, and has truly stuck with me. I challenge you to do the same! You never know when something wonderful may happen, just keep looking up. xx

The Holidays in New York

Every day, I am so thankful to live in my pretty city. However, this time of year is particularly special to me in New York. The shops and window displays are booming with music and garland. City sidewalks are filled with evergreen trees and patrons are bundled up with warm drinks in hand. Every year, since I was very young, my family would come into the city to see all that it had to offer during the holidays. Here are 7 things I think you would love and will surely not want to miss:

1. Get hot chocolate and stroll Central Park - Ralph's Coffee is a favorite during the holidays

2. Stop for a festive cocktail and enjoy the holiday décor - I recently went to Bobo Restaurant in West Village and it felt like we were in a Nancy Meyers movie

3. Step into Lauduree for a sweet treat - their décor is simply divine

4. Ice-skating in Bryant Park

5. Rockefeller Center - no matter how big the crowds are, I promise it's always worth seeing the tree (it doesn't hurt that there are also a few places like here and there for last minute holiday shopping!)

6. Window displays on Madison & Fifth Avenue - I particularly always love the ones found at Bergdorf Goodman and Tiffany & Co.

7. Tea at The Plaza Hotel - because Eloise will forever hold a special place in my heart!

Gift Guide: For Her

When it comes to gifts I love treating my favorite ladies and best girlfriends to something they do not usually give themselves. The Bite lipsticks are a new found love - this gift set is such a fun idea! For those who love to entertain, this cheeseboard (marble and monogram? Yes, please!will surely be put to use. Add a bottle of wine and your next girls night is planned! This S'well bottle and these sneakers are perfect for those on the go. I love Trish McEvoy's products and think they pair perfectly with a cozy set of pajamas like these. This duffle bag (originally styled here) is a favorite with my readers, which leads me to believe mostly anybody on your list would agree. And, if your looking to splurge on a little something for yourself, this pair of flats will be a classic for years to come. Don't forget a handwritten note with a few sweet words, it's the thought that matters most! xx

Gift Guide: For Him

I love being able to treat guys to something special during the holidays. My dad and brother are very practical and always tell me that they don't want gifts - just to spend Christmas together! Above are a few gift ideas at different price points. My brother has this coat and wears it consistently from Fall through Spring! These are a perfect stocking stuffer and ideal for my father's early morning runs outside. Both of them also love fun socks, to wear under their work suits. It seems to be the trend lately and is a fun way to add a little character to the regular business look. I am also loving this wallet, any watch from this brand, and fun whiskey bar set - it's never too early to start the holiday festivities! xx

From Desk to Glam

With year end, work is particularly busy and leaves less time to get ready or pop home to prepare for holiday festivities. Therefore, I like to pack extra items that can be added on my outfit, post work. Above are a few pieces that are ideal little additions to take you from desk to glam. I always begin with a basic and chic dress, blouse or skirtA red lip, my go-to mascara, necklace with added sparkle, and over the knee boots will instantly elevate your look. It truly is the little things that make all the difference. Better yet, these items can be mixed and matched for other events. Currently Adoring

I can't believe Thanksgiving is already this week! This bag is always the perfect travel companion, especially for my trip home this weekend. It would also make the best gift for your mother or dear friend. I am adding this pair of earrings to my wish list. Don't you think they would be a sparkly addition for holiday parties? With the days getting shorter and chillier, one of my favorite things to do in the evening is curl up under this blanket, put on a face mask, and light a scented candle. This one has me in the mood for some holiday cheer! I recently purchased this pair of shoes (even better, they are currently on sale) and could not be more in love - comfortable and cute! What are you loving right now? Have a safe and fun Thanksgiving with your loved ones. xx

Playing Hostess

On Saturday, I threw a little apartment warming for my close girlfriends. With the Fall weather beginning to switch into chillier evenings, it was the perfect time to gather the girls for cocktails! With my own little dovecote in the city, there is now no shortage of opportunities to play hostess. I thought it would be fun to share five tips I follow for any soiree, no matter how big or small, especially with holidays around the corner!

1. Confirm your guest list
I kept it simple and intimate with my closest girlfriends. Invites were sent out from Paperless Post and I confirmed the number of guests a week before.

2. Prepare a menu
I wanted my guests to come over and make themselves at home. We often do potluck dinners where everyone contributes, but it was important for me to treat them to a fun evening. I didn't want them to worry about bringing anything, besides their lovely selves!

3. Make a fun playlist
This little Bose speaker has proven itself time and time again. It has made it's way into my suitcase for girls trips, beach weekends and most recently an ideal companion for hangouts in my little abode. Ellie Goulding and Sam Hunt are a few of my favorites right now!

4. It's all in the details
If one thing is for sure, I truly believe that it's the little things that matter most. Everything from the invites, cocktail napkins, and candles.

5. Have fun!
Just live in the moment and enjoy! You may burn an appetizer or forget ingredients at the store, but it's the company you keep that truly matters.

xx, Alexa

Travel Style

This past weekend, I traveled to Washington D.C. to visit family and friends. With the holiday season beginning shortly, it had my starting to think about my packing list in the coming months. I do my very best to travel lightly, but with so many festivities it can be difficult to include the right pieces for your getaway, while also not limiting your options. The true key, I think, is layering. Adding a scarf to your travel style that can be used as a shawl in the evenings, wearing the bigger boots in order to make your bag less heavy, or bringing a dressier coat for both day and night. After all, it's always fun to dress up! xx

J.Crew Active

As if we couldn't love J.Crew more, they recently launched their exclusive active wear line with New Balance. Now is the perfect time to refresh  my workout collection. As the weather begins to change, I find myself needing a few more of these for chilly morning runs before work or something like this that go can from weekend work outs to brunch with friends. I am loving the simplicity of the line, colors and all that it has to offer! Next on the list is this studio, which just opened up in my neighborhood. xx

Current Closet Staples

Lately, I have been on the hunt for a few closet staples that can take me through Fall and into Winter. I recently picked up this top and think it will be perfect with flared denimwork skirts or under a little leather jacket in the evening. In addition, I have been loving the cold shoulder look, especially with sweaters. It adds a fun and trendy pop! Other items on my list are these booties and sweater dress. As the weather continues to change, I am excited to mix and match new pieces for a fresh feel, despite the chillier temperatures. What are you currently adoring? xx

Fall Wish List

I have started making a little list of items for Fall. After moving and unpacking my things, it helped to see what I own and narrow down the list. A cozy sweater dress that can be worn for both work and play, and new denim are at the top of my list. I also have my eye own the suede jacket trend and this adorable ruffled blouse. In addition, I am hoping to invest in a pair of warm booties (how cute and clever!) and black dressy coat for evenings out. What are you loving for Fall? xx

My Own Little Place

As mentioned last week, I just moved into my new studio! One of my best friends is 8 blocks away, Central Park is still within walking distance, and the shopping? Simply heaven! My love for neutral decor will continue, with added blue tones and shade of grey. It will be a work in progress for a bit, as I want to save up for pieces I truly love and are a reflection of my personal style. I am still pinching myself over the fact that this is my own little space, in the great big city I love so much. No matter how big or small, I truly feel like it is already home. xx

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend is here - can you believe it? There are still a few more weekends of beach weather to look forward to and the start of Fall is my absolute favorite! I am moving into a new apartment tomorrow (my very own place!) and then heading up to my friends lake house on Thursday for the long weekend. My plan is to keep the packing list simple with my Summer staples, along with a few items that will transition nicely into September. How cute are these wedges? Wishing you a safe and wonderful holiday weekend! xx

Charleston Charm

This Thursday, a few sweet friends and I are heading South to Charleston and Savannah for the weekend. I am so excited! My packing list consists of easy pieces that are both light and airy. It looks like it will be quite hot, so a beach day (or two) are definitely on our agenda! It will be my first weekend in the city after a long time and I am excited to try out a new restaurant from my ongoing list, spend time with friends and get organized for another trip in a few days. With Fall in sight, I am beginning to think about pieces that will transition nicely into the new season. Here are a few of the things I am currently adoring that are perfect for now, and later. Big Sky, Montana

Last week, I headed West for a wedding. The festivities took place at Big Sky Resort in Montana. It was so special to be there and celebrate the happy couple! I packed light layers that easily transitioned into chillier evenings. Summer nights are simply my favorite! My go-to white denim, sneakers for morning hikes, and cozy sweaters proved to be the perfect travel companions. If you are heading West this Summer, I would definitely recommend the above as a packing list to get you started. Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday! xx

J.Crew New Arrivals

The J.Crew new arrivals are too good! Their classic cashmere sweaters and accessories always win me over. Lately though, I have been lusting over the blouses and denim more than ever. With the Summer season still here, this bathing suit is certainly waiting to join my collection! I am also loving this sweater for the coming Fall season and these gingham shorts for a few upcoming trips. And, how can I resist this blouse? Ruffles and stripes win me over, every single time. xx

Picnic in the Park

One of my all time favorite things to do in the Summer is picnic in Central Park. Last weekend, a group of us attended the Pinknic event on Governor's Island. While home in Connecticut for July 4th, I picked up a blanket from Homegoods - this one is very similar! My favorite straw bag and sunnies are always in tow. I can't leave without my little Bose speaker - this thing seriously is the best. I even travel with it on vacations and bring to the beach. Last but not least, you can't forget the small details like cute cocktail napkins - it truly is the little things that make all the difference! xx
